Language cafés as part of Oulu 2026 - Roots and Future

Swedish, Finnish, Meänkieli and Kven can be learned on the Oulu2026 cultural programme

Welcome to take part in the language cafés of the Roots and Future – Empowering Minority Language Education and Communities project, organised as part of the European Capital of Culture year. The online language cafés included in the Oulu2026 programme strengthen knowledge of minority languages and cultures in the Northern Cap region.

The Oulu2026 programme includes the Bara prata svenska online Swedish language cafés in spring and autumn 2026. At the end of 2026, joined language cafés for Kven, Meänkieli, Swedish, and Finnish will also be organized. The language cafés take place on Zoom and are open to anyone interested in the region’s minority languages and cultures. Participants also join from Northern Sweden and Northern Norway.

Roots and Future language café series consist of six sessions, where the language is practised in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere through practical, everyday activities. The cafés increase participants’ ability to use minority languages in daily life and strengthen Nordic cooperation.

The Swedish language online café series begin on 13 March at 2–3 pm on Zoom. Read more and join in:
