The first Lávdan Sámi Arena was held in Guovdageaidnu/Kautokeino from 10 to 15 June 2025 as a part of the Interreg Aurora funded project ReCap ASáp – Regaining capacity in a changing Sápmi. Over 480 participants took part in more than 50 different events. The aim was to create an arena for Sámi civil society to gather for conversations, debates, and development. A meeting place for civil society organisations, institutions, and politicians. According to the project partners the arena was “a week of learning and building connections across sectors, fields and state borders proved itself a successful and necessary meeting place”.
The ReCap ASáp project has been appointed as an Operation of Strategic Importance by the Interreg Aurora Programme. This means a project which provides a significant contribution to the achievement of the objectives of the Interreg Aurora Programme.
Olivier Baudelet, DG REGIO, European Commission participated at Lávdan Sámi Arena, he was the keynote speaker at the event “Borders blur, culture thrives: Sámi institutions as a driver for Sámi-EU regional development”. An interactive workshop followed, where participants discussed the needs of the Sámi society and explored how the EU can contribute to sustainable development in Sápmi.
