In February the team gathered in Oulu to plan and further develop the VR application for the dipnet fishing tradition in Torne River. The meeting offered engaging discussions, testing of the application, and several clear steps forward.
Novia University of Applied Sciences in Jakobstad, is responsible for developing the VR solution. Thanks to their work, they will soon be able to offer a completely new way to experience the dipnet fishing tradition in digital form.
With the VR application, users can make virtual visits to all four of their dipnet fishing villages and try dipnet fishing at the fishing piers (krenkku, pata). The goal is to create a vivid and captivating experience for both locals and new visitors in a safe, accessible, and multisensory way.
The first version of the application is expected to be ready in May 2026.
