Tervetuloa mukaan etänä Viherpäivien 2026 vieraslajiteemaiseen pre-seminaariin, jossa tarkastellaan vieraslajeja ja kestäviä vaihtoehtoja tulevaisuuden näkökulmasta.
Haitalliset vieraslajit ovat merkittävä uhka luonnon monimuotoisuudelle, ja niiden torjunta vaatii huomattavia resursseja ja laajaa koordinointia. Viher- ja puutarha-alan sekä kunnossapidon trendit vaikuttavat siihen, mitä lajeja Suomeen tuodaan ja miten niitä käytetään.
Etelä-Pohjanmaan Elinvoimakeskuksen koordinoimassa INSPIRE-vieraslajihankkeessa kehitetään parhaillaan kasvilajilistaa, jossa suositellaan puutarha- ja viheralalle vapaaehtoisesti käytettäväksi vaihtoehtoisia lajeja sellaisten puutarha-alalla käytössä olevien vieraslajien tilalle, joihin liittyy tulevaisuudessa leviämis- ja haittariskejä.
Tämä pre-seminaari jatkaa INSPIRE-hankkeen syksyllä 2025 Närpiössä järjestetyn seminaarin ja työpajan keskusteluja, joissa vaihtoehtoisten kasvilajien lista haitallisten vieraslajien tilalle herätti suurta kiinnostusta. Närpiön tilaisuudessa korostui lisäksi rajat ylittävän yhteistyön tarve viranomaisten ja puutarha-alan välillä – tätä yhteistyötä jatketaan ja syvennetään nyt Viherpäivien yhteydessä.
Pre-seminaarissa esittelemme hankkeen ruotsalaisten kumppanien työstämää ja syksyllä 2026 julkaistavaa lajilistaa ensimmäistä kertaa Suomessa. Suomelle ja Ruotsille tullaan julkaisemaan omat listansa. Keskustelemme ja keräämme osallistujien näkemyksiä siitä, mitkä vaihtoehtoiset lajit olisivat tärkeää sisällyttää Suomen versioon, ja mitkä tahot hyötyisivät listan käyttöönotosta.
Seminaarissa kuulemme alustusesitykset ympäristöneuvos Johanna Niemivuo-Lahdelta (maa- ja metsätalousministeriö), puutarhuri ja agronomi Ilpo Koivulta (Taimistoviljelijät ry) sekä vieraslajiasiantuntija Markus Seppälältä ja vieraslajilähettiläs, tutkija ja maisemasuunnittelija Taina Suoniolta (INSPIRE-hanke). Osallistavan työpajan juontavat INSPIREn projektipäällikkö Johanna Nymark, Markus Seppälä ja Taina Suonio.
Tilaisuus järjestetään lähitapahtumana Jyväskylän Paviljongissa ja etäosallistujat voivat seurata suorana alustuksia ja halutessaan myös työpajaa. Kysymyksiä voi esittää chatin kautta tai käyttämällä mikrofonia, mutta pienryhmäkeskusteluja ei järjestetä etäosallistujille.
Tilaisuuden järjestää Etelä-Pohjanmaan Elinvoimakeskuksen koordinoima, EU:n Interreg Aurora -ohjelman osarahoittama INSPIRE-vieraslajihanke. Pääkieli on suomi mutta osallistujat voivat käyttää kumpaakin kotimaista kieltä.

Welcome to join remotely the invasive species–themed pre-seminar of Viherpäivät 2026, where invasive species and sustainable alternatives are examined from a future-oriented perspective.
Harmful invasive species pose a significant threat to biodiversity, and their control requires substantial resources and extensive coordination. Trends in the green and horticultural sectors as well as in maintenance influence which species are introduced to Finland and how they are used.
The INSPIRE invasive species project, coordinated by the South Ostrobothnia Vitality Centre, is currently developing a plant species list that recommends voluntary alternative species for use in the horticultural and green sectors to replace non-native species currently in use that may pose spreading and environmental risks in the future.
This pre-seminar continues the discussions of the INSPIRE project seminar and workshop held in Närpiö in autumn 2025, where the proposed list of alternative plant species to replace harmful invasive species generated strong interest. The Närpiö event also highlighted the need for cross-border cooperation between authorities and the horticultural sector—cooperation that will now be continued and strengthened in connection with Viherpäivät.
At the pre-seminar, we will present for the first time in Finland the species list developed by the project’s Swedish partners, which will be published in autumn 2026. Separate lists will be published for Finland and Sweden. We will discuss and gather participants’ views on which alternative species should be included in the Finnish version and which stakeholders would benefit from adopting the list.
The seminar will feature introductory presentations by Senior Adviser Johanna Niemivuo-Lahti (Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry), horticulturist and agronomist Ilpo Koivu (Finnish Association of Nurseries), invasive species expert Markus Seppälä, and invasive species ambassador, researcher and landscape architect Taina Suonio (INSPIRE project). The interactive workshop will be moderated by INSPIRE Project Manager Johanna Nymark, Markus Seppälä, and Taina Suonio.
The event will be held as an on-site event at Paviljonki in Jyväskylä, and remote participants will be able to follow the presentations live and, if they wish, also take part in the workshop. Questions can be asked via chat or by using a microphone, but small-group discussions will not be available for remote participants.
The event is organized by the INSPIRE invasive species project coordinated by the South Ostrobothnia Vitality Centre and co-funded by the EU Interreg Aurora Programme. The main language is Finnish, but participants may use either of Finland’s official languages.
