Kvarken Film Network Created a Better Understanding of the Audiovisual Industry in the Kvarken Region

The Interreg Aurora funded small-scale project Kvarken Film Network was implemented during the second half of 2024. Through a survey, the project investigated the potential benefits of creating a shared film and audiovisual hub, across borders in the Kvarken region. The partnership also carried out workshops, benchmarking sessions and events to engage stakeholders.

The results of the survey and stakeholder contacts indicate a clear need for structured support to boost the film industry in the region further.

The project has already presented tangible results, as film industry professionals from both Finland and Sweden have begun participating in industry events in neighboring countries. Discussions on co-productions are already taking place, and collaboration between festivals in Umeå and Vaasa have started (Umeå Film Festival and Ostrobothnia Film Fest). Additionally, the project has sparked interest from related industries, such as the gaming and music sectors, leading to broader industry connections.

The project partnership consisted of Kvarken Council, Novia UAS, Film i Västerbotten, and Yrkesakademin i Österbotten. An application for a regular-scale Interreg Aurora project is allready in progress.
