Our Precious Transboundary Waters

Increasing awareness of the Gyrodactylus salaris parasite that threatens salmon stocks

A spread of the lethal salmon parasite Gyrodactylus salaris would have devastating ecological consequences for the native wild salmon stocks in the northern cross-border waters of the Tana and Neiden rivers.

The Interreg Aurora funded project Our Precious Transboundary Waters has cooperated with Mikko “Peltsi” Peltola and Pike Strike Oy to play a key role in raising awareness about the Gyrodactylus salaris parasite.

Mikko “Peltsi” Peltola is a well-known Finnish journalist and nature enthusiast, recognized for his work in outdoor and fishing-related TV and radio programs. His approachable and credible presence makes him a trusted voice in environmental communication. His involvement in the campaign videos adds visibility and impact, especially among recreational fishers and nature visitors.
