The Roots and Future webinar series on minority languages in the North Calotte region will kick off on 27 May 2025 with content focused on the Kven language. Welcome to hear about the Kven language, its background, and its current status.

The Kvens are one of five national minorities in Norway. They originally came from the areas around the Gulf of Bothnia in Northern Finland and Northern Sweden. Kven is recognized as a minority language in Norway.

Malin Vollstad talks about the Kven culture based in the Nord-Troms region, the area where the Halti Kven Culture Center operates. Mervi Erkheikki tells the same story in Kven.

Kväänit oon yks viiestä kansalisesta minoriteetista Norjassa. Het tulit alunperin Perämeren alalta Pohjais-Suomesta ja Pohjais-Ruottista. Kvääni oon hyväksytty minoriteettikieli Norjassa.
