Ensuring a secure and sustainable supply of Critical Raw Material for European industry and society is a critical priority on the EU agenda. The Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) was initiated to enhance the EU domestic production and circularity, addressing the needs of the Energy Transition and European industrial ecosystems. The CRMA’s success relies heavily on Northern Europe.
The Interreg Aurora funded project SISME – Strengthening the Involvement of SMEs in the CRM value chains across Northern Europe aims to create a cross border cooperation platform between the Mining Regional Innovation Ecosystems in Finland and Sweden. The project will take advantage of complementary competencies to enhance innovation capacity and build mining-related cross-border value chains. The mining-related value chain in Northern Europe will be identified, and the gaps in the value chain will be evaluated with the aim to fill these gaps. Small and medium-sized companies and supporting research and delelopment institutions will be identified and connected to the mining regional innovation ecosystems, to fill the gaps and enable both the growth and internationalization by cross-border cooperation, and also allowing the mining sector’s green transition via the sustainable, advanced solutions provided by small and medium-sized companies.
