Overcoming the arctic challenges in order to boost the uptake of offshore wind energy

OFFwind

The overall objective of the OFFwind project is to contribute to boost the uptake of offshore wind energy in the Aurora area by overcoming the arctic challenges.

The offshore areas of the Gulf of Bothnia and the Norwegian Sea outside Northern Norway provide many potential areas for offshore wind parks. However, there are ice and other arctic challenges which must be overcome to fully utilize this potential. The OFFwind project aims at contributing to overcoming these challenges. Methods and models to reduce the impact of the harsh weather conditions will be developed and shared.

The OFFwind project’s main target groups include both the public and private sector. We want to provide both planning authorities and private businesses with valuable knowhow on the impact of the arctic conditions on offshore windfarms – from the planning and development phase to operation and maintenance of the farms.
