ASP – Making Archives Accessible on Sámi Premises

The Interreg Aurora funded project ASP – Making Archives Accessible on Sámi Premises is a cross-border initiative by the National Archives of Sweden, Norway, and Finland aimed at improving the Sámi people’s access to their own history and cultural heritage. The project seeks to comprehensively map government archives containing information about the Sámi people and enhance descriptive metadata to make Sámi-related materials more visible and accessible.

The project will develop a common Nordic methodology for describing Sámi documentation in archives, carried out in close collaboration with the Sámi community and institutions. This collaborative approach ensures that the Sámi people themselves participate in prioritizing archive materials and developing descriptions, making archives more accessible specifically for them.
