Storytelling, shaping people – using modern technology in telling ancient stories

Partner Search: Impact Crater Lake Lappajärvi UNESCO Global Geopark is searching for project partners for a project in April 2026 – December 2028. The idea is the origin story of Impact Crater Lake Lappajärvi and how to creating and shape storytelling of the genesis of Impact Crater Lake Lappajärvi by using modern technology in telling ancient stories.

Storificating the genesis creates understanding, commitment and cultural creativity in the area. Co-operation with similar areas and using storytelling as a tool in sustainable tourism. 78 million years ago the earth shaked due to a hit of a meteorite. As a result of this Crater Lake Lappajärvi was formed. Lake Lappajärvi is the biggest crater lake in Europe. This impact can still be seen in the surrounding nature. In this project the aim is to visualize, conceptualize and increase palpability of the historical event. This is done using modern technology and storytelling. As a result, the ancient story becomes tangible and the level of understanding and commitment as well as the level of awareness increases. Thus, Geopark enchances its impact and strengthens its contribution to the implementations of the UNESCO’s Agenda 2030 goals.
