Enhancing Wireless Communication & Sensing with Secure, Resilient, and Trustworthy Solutions

TRUST

The Interreg Aurora funded project TRUST aims to develop secure, resilient, and scalable wireless networking and detection systems in the Aurora programme area, with a focus on remote and sparsely populated areas. By combining terrestrial and non-terrestrial (satellite) systems, the project enhances real-time data management, resource optimization, and automation in sectors such as manufacturing, supply chain management, and smart grids. See Attachment 1 for details.

At its core, TRUST prioritizes building trustworthy communication technologies by ensuring robust cybersecurity and the integrity of positioning systems. As industries increasingly rely on AI-driven solutions, the project will showcase how AI and explainable AI (XAI), can proactively detect and counter cyber threats. By developing secure, AI-powered communication networks, TRUST empowers SMEs and large industrial actors to adopt cutting-edge technologies while safeguarding operational data and ensuring trust in their systems.

Key partners, Mid Sweden University (MIUN) and the University of Vaasa, will pool their expertise in industrial IoT, precision positioning, cybersecurity and AI to deliver scalable, cross-border solutions. A shared testbed will validate these under real-world conditions, accelerating the move from research to application. Cross-border collaboration is essential to address shared challenges and deliver standardized solutions benefiting the Aurora region.

Aligned with Interreg Auroras Objective 1.1: Smart Specialisation, Research, and Innovation, the TRUST project addresses regional priorities like digital transformation, autonomous mobility, and sustainability. By fostering cross-border cooperation, TRUST will drive economic growth, improve competitiveness, and create new job opportunities in technology-driven sectors. With a robust communication and commercialization plan, the project will ensure the long-term sustainability and transferability of its results.
