The Interreg Aurora funded small-scale project Borderless, Secure and Vibrant North was recently completed. The partnership consisted of the Council of Torne Valley and Fell Lapland Development.
The main purpose of the small-scale project was to organise discussion events in the areas covered by the Council of Torne Valley and Fell Lapland Development in Sweden, Finland and Norway. The goal of the events was to promote cross-border cooperation through communication and discussion, while providing all parties with the opportunity to be involved and influence future cross-border infrastructure projects that are significant in terms of security of supply, security and regional vitality. Another important task was to prepare the common labour market and business area of the border regions for possible future crises and exceptional situations.
As seen in the project result report, the project discovered several areas for future cooperation across borders. Discussions took place around themes like infrastructure and security of supply in potential future crisis scenarios. The Torne Valley Council presents their view on the development of future cross-border transport infrastructure.
The cooperation between the project partners will continue, and a new partnership is being established regarding the application process for the wider Interreg Aurora project. On the basis of the discussion events, a cross-border survey of transport connections is being planned, which would serve as joint advocacy material in all three countries.
