The Interreg Aurora funded project AUTONOMIC (Autonomous Robots for Environmental Monitoring of Nordic Regions) has made strong progress in communication and stakeholder engagement during its early implementation phase. Partners have actively raised awareness, shared knowledge, and engaged with key stakeholders across the Nordic region to ensure that project results are both visible and relevant.

Diverse communication channels and events
During the first reporting periods, AUTONOMIC partners have implemented a wide range of communication and dissemination activities targeting both scientific and applied audiences.
Project results and concepts have been presented in several key events, including the Boliden TechTalk organised by Luleå University of Technology, at the Renare Mark conference, an important Swedish networking platform focused on contaminated land, by Mitta Oy, as well as during EU-project ACWA-life meeting by LUKE. Oulu University Biomimetics group members are frequently travelling EU and worldwide and promoting AUTONOMIC.
In addition, AUTONOMIC contributed to an international webinar organised by the Savonia-led project AUTOsense, titled “Demonstrating autonomous and semi-autonomous technologies in rural and remote contexts, highlighting adaptability, reliability, and potential for regional development”. This webinar provided a platform to showcase AUTONOMIC’s approach within a broader discussion on smart and resilient technologies for remote environments.
Partners have also participated in workshops and international events such as the Winter Satellite Workshop in Espoo, Finland, and EIC Summit in Brussels (Fig. 2), while continuously promoting project activities through institutional websites, blog posts, and presentations across partner organisations.

Strengthening stakeholder dialogue
Beyond dissemination, AUTONOMIC places strong emphasis on two-way engagement with stakeholders. In May 2026, Savonia University of Applied Sciences organised a dedicated meeting with Finnish target groups to gather feedback on the project’s technological development and future directions.
The discussion focused on emerging needs in the field of smart environmental monitoring, including expectations related to automation, reliability, and applicability in Nordic conditions. Participants shared valuable insights on practical challenges and opportunities, helping to align the project’s development with real-world use cases.
This type of interaction plays a crucial role in ensuring that AUTONOMIC solutions are not only technically advanced, but also relevant and usable for end-users such as environmental authorities, industry actors, and research organisations.
Growing digital presence and long-term impact
To complement physical events, the project has established a growing digital presence. Partners actively share updates through online channels, including social media and institutional platforms, ensuring continuous visibility and accessibility of project activities.

Communication is also tightly linked to project development: feedback from stakeholders and dissemination activities helps guide technical work and prioritise key features of the emerging solutions.
By combining scientific dissemination, stakeholder engagement, and digital outreach, AUTONOMIC is building a strong foundation for long-term impact. As the project progresses, communication activities will continue to support the uptake of autonomous robotic solutions for environmental monitoring across the Nordic region.
