The Interreg Aurora funded project Sustainable Visitor Access in Arctic Research and Science Environments explores how Arctic research environments can be integrated into sustainable tourism systems, while safeguarding research integrity, operational safety and environmental sustainability.
Arctic regions are experiencing rapid tourism growth and increasing interest in science-based experiences. At the same time, research infrastructures are not designed for visitor access, and unmanaged interaction may create risks for safety, research activities and the fragile Arctic environment.
The projects objetive is to clarify the operational conditions that enable responsible visitor access in Arctic research and RDI environments.
The project focuses on defining clear conditions under which visitor access can be organised responsibly. The results will support future development, including the preparation of a regular Interreg Aurora project.
