The Sámi literary field spans Sweden, Norway and Finland (Sápmi also extends into Russia, but Russia is not included in this project due to the ongoing war in Ukraine). Organisations, authors, publishers and other actors within the field often work in isolation from one another, with little overview of who is active, what conditions they work under, or what support exists across the border. The Interreg Aurora funded project Sápmi literature map addresses this situation with the ambition of mapping the entire cross-border literary field through interviews, visits and dialogue with organisations and individuals working with Sámi literature.
The project’s objective is to create a shared, up-to-date overview of the Sámi literary field and lay the foundation for increased cross-border collaboration, knowledge exchange and joint initiatives that strengthen the sector’s long-term development. Target groups are civil society organisations, authors, storytellers, translators and other professionals active in the Sámi literary field in Sweden, Norway and Finland.
Results will be published in a written project report and on a digital platform developed as part of the project, accessible to the entire Sámi literary field.
